Egypt’s House of Representatives has officially resumed its legislative sessions with broad governmental momentum to pass a comprehensive set of laws aimed at improving the investment environment and developing government services for citizens. Leading the parliamentary agenda in this session are draft laws on local administration reform, the modernization of the civil registry system, and legislative proposals regarding the regulation of the financial technology sector.

The Speaker of the House confirmed that the current session will see the deliberation of more than twenty-five draft laws across various fields, noting that parliament places improving citizens’ quality of life at the top of its legislative priorities. He explained that the specialized committees of the Council will work with doubled seriousness to complete their assigned tasks as quickly as possible.

The opening session included a detailed presentation of the Local Administration Development bill, which aims to grant governorates broader authority in making development decisions and improve spending efficiency at the local level. A large number of MPs expressed support for the bill, with some observations that will be taken into account during the discussion phases.

The Council also discussed a proposal to form a special committee to review legislation relating to the telecommunications and technology sector, given the sector’s rapid development and the need for an updated legislative framework that keeps pace with global developments and protects the interests of Egyptian users.
